In the beginning of The Fire Within, David Rain is a tenant who loves writing and doesn’t care about much. But when he is hearing mysterious noises from a room where he is not around, he starts to investigate. He starts to think that there is magic in the house, but then he starts to think that it is the dragons that are all over the house. When he starts to get along with Lucy Pennykettle she shows him that a squirrel named Snigger is sick. Then Lucy’s mother Liz Pennykettle makes David a clay dragon he starts to investigate it. David then has a dream and the dragon keeps on saying Gadzooks. So when he wakes up he names the dragon Gadzooks. At the end of the book David finds out that all of the dragons are living creatures.
