Author's note- The book Touching Spirit Bear is about a troubled kid who learns how to forgive. In this conflict / resolution piece look for the reasons why Cole acted the way he did and what happened because of his actions.
The conflict in Touching Spirit Bear is that Cole doesn't follow the rules of society. He has to go to a remote Alaskan island for his latest crime, smashing Peter Driscal's head on the sidewalk. He is then chosen for a group called Circle Justice, where they think that jail is just a punishment and it doesn't heal a person. So then he is sent to the island where he then is mauled by a spirit bear. And then he goes back to the island with some help from Garvey, his lawyer and Edwin, a Tinglit elder. But Edwin tells Cole to soak in the cold water and take a giant boulder called the ancestor rock up the hill and then it turns into his anger and he rolls it down the hill. When the people leave, Cole will do the exercises that Edwin taught Cole so he will be more calm and peaceful. When the people leave, Cole will do the exercises that Edwin taught Cole so he will be more calm and peaceful. In the end Cole learns how to forgive others and live by the way society expects.

Nathan, I see your piece on Touching Spirit Bear made you think about a lot of things. Could you add your book's title to your blog entry title? It is easy to see the conflict but what is Cole's resolution to his problem?
